Who was Nonna Bianca?
Bianca was a shopkeeper who lived in Iano, more precisely in Torri, a small village where also our agriturismo is located.
In the 60’s, in every village or small town, there was a shop, more specifically a food shop. In a bottega you would find indispensable products for local families and where one could find bit of everything. This was also a place used as a meeting point for the villagers of that time, but in regard to the little bottega in Iano, Bianca did more. She also began to prepare cooked dishes, simple yet traditional dishes, for wayfarers and passing workers, which made her shop a place where people ate and drank well.
However, shops like Bianca’s did not last very long, they were eventually overtaken by larger and better supplied shops, now reachable with cars that in the meantime had begun to spread also among the rural dwellers. Unfortunately, Bianca’s shop was closed in 1963.
Almost 60 years later, during the construction of our new restaurant, emptying the big vacant spaces of our farm shed that were occupied for many years only by rusty tools, we found a book with many handwritten recipes. While speaking with the elders of the village and having mentioned the shop, they also remember Bianca.
We were able to understand that it was in fact her recipe book. For this reason, we decided to dedicate the name of our restaurant to Grandma Bianca, a source of inspiration for us and we have chosen to offer our guests the good dishes of the traditional cuisine of the past.
